About MetronoTuner
MetronoTuner is a free set of tools for musicians: tuner, metronome, chord and scale dictionaries, chord-progression composer, backing tracks and singing practice. It works in the browser and as an app, in 25 languages, with no sign-up and offline after the first visit. It is a Scale Learning Group project.
Who makes it
MetronoTuner is made by Scale Learning Group. The idea is simple: open your phone on the music stand and have what you use in practice right away, with nothing to install, no account to create and no ads in the way of the buttons.
How the tools work
- The theory is calculated, not typed in: chord notes, intervals, fingerings, scale positions and harmonic fields come from formulas, with correct note spelling (F sharp and G flat are never mixed up).
- Note names follow your language: C, D, E in English; Dó, Ré, Mi in Portuguese; H for B in German.
- The tuner and the singing exercises analyse the microphone sound on your own device, in real time. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
- The metronome keeps time with the device’s audio clock, not the page clock, so it doesn’t lag when the screen is busy.
- Each tool keeps your choices in the page address (BPM, time signature, chords, tuning), so you can save and share the link to a ready-made exercise.
What was measured
Automated tests run on every change to the site. Among them:
- Note detection with an error of at most 2 cents, from B0 (30.87 Hz) to B5, in tests with generated signals.
- No timing drift in the metronome over 10 straight minutes.
- The spelling of every scale in all 12 keys, and the major and minor harmonic fields.
- Every chord fingering checked against the theory, note by note.
Principles
- Free, with no sign-up.
- Microphone sound never leaves your device.
- Ads in fixed places, away from the controls, with no full-screen ads and nothing jumping around.
- Works offline after the first visit.
- The same quality in all 25 languages.
Credits
The piano sound is a real Steinway, recorded note by note by Lawrence Fritts at the University of Iowa for the Musical Instrument Samples collection, free for any use. Thank you!
