Frequently asked questions
Which instruments have chord diagrams?
Guitar (acoustic, classical and electric share the same tuning, so the shapes are the same), ukulele and cavaquinho. Each instrument covers the 12 keys and every chord type, with a diagram for each fingering.
What do the letters and numbers in a chord name mean?
The letter is the root note (C, D, E, F, G, A, B); the rest tells the chord type: m = minor, 7 = dominant seventh, 7M = major seventh (Cmaj7), ° = diminished, + = augmented, sus4 = suspended fourth. "#" raises a note by a half step and "b" lowers it.
How do I read a chord diagram?
The vertical lines are the strings and the horizontal ones are the frets. The numbers inside the dots are the fingers (1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 pinky), "x" is a string you do not play, "o" is an open string and the coloured dot marks the root note.
Can I hear how a chord sounds?
Yes. Every fingering has a Listen button, which strums the chord, and an Arpeggio button, which plays the strings one by one.
