Sing the note
Singing the note is the most direct pitch drill: hearing a pitch and reproducing it with your voice. The site plays a note in your range, you sing, and the microphone measures how many cents sharp or flat you were. Any octave counts. The microphone sound is analyzed on the spot, on your device, and is never recorded or sent.
Tap Start to turn on the microphone. Use headphones if you have them.

Sing the note
Listen to the note
How it works
- Pick your voice’s range (low or high). If you’ve taken the vocal range test, it’s used.
- Tap Start and allow the microphone. With headphones, the microphone doesn’t hear the site itself.
- Listen to the note and sing it back, holding the sound for a second on an open vowel like “ah”.
- You can sing an octave higher or lower: what counts is the note, not the octave.
How close is “in tune”?
| Deviation | What it means |
|---|---|
| up to 10 cents | Imperceptible to almost everyone. |
| 10 to 25 cents | In tune; a trained ear notices on long notes. |
| 25 to 50 cents | Out of tune, but still the right note. |
| over 50 cents | Closer to the neighboring note: it’s another note. |
Frequently asked questions
What are cents?
Hundredths of a semitone: from one note to the next there are 100 cents. A 50-cent error is exactly halfway between two notes. Singers who are in tune usually stay within 10 to 25 cents.
Is my voice recorded?
No. The microphone is analyzed on the spot, inside the browser, only to measure the pitch of the note. No sound is recorded, stored or sent. The microphone only turns on after you tap Start and turns off at the end of the round.
Can I sing an octave below the note played?
Yes. Men’s voices usually sing an octave below women’s, and the note is still the same. The exercise compares the note, in any octave.
Why doesn’t the microphone pick up my voice?
Hold the note for at least half a second, without heavy vibrato, somewhere quiet. Check that the browser is using the right microphone. Without headphones, wait for the site’s note to end before singing.
