How to play
- Type in the names of who’s playing (up to 8 people). Anyone who already took the range test on this device can use their saved range.
- On your turn, go down to the lowest note you can hold, then up to the highest, holding each note until the bar fills up.
- At the end, see your voice type, the closest singers and, with friends, who has the widest range, the lowest voice and the highest.
How the comparison works
Only notes you hold for half a second count, just like in the range test. Your range is compared with each singer’s documented range, in semitones: what matters is how much the two overlap and how close their centres are. The singers’ ranges are approximate, taken from public sources, and some may be exaggerated: it’s for fun, not for labelling anyone.
Frequently asked questions
Why didn’t the singer I expected show up?
The comparison only looks at range, not tone or style: two voices with the same reach can sound very different. Also, the published ranges of singers often include rare notes from live recordings or falsetto.
Where do the singers’ ranges come from?
From surveys published by fans and by reference sites about voices. They are approximate and some may be exaggerated.
How is this different from the vocal range test?
The full test saves your range for the exercises and shows your comfortable range. The game is the quick version, to play with friends and compare with singers.
Is my voice recorded?
No. The sound is analysed on the spot, on your own device, and is never recorded or sent. Only your best result (the widest range) is kept in this browser.
